Travel report April 2006 |

Here you can read the complete report of the short trip to Italy from April 8 to April 12 2006. Pictures of this trip can be found here. On April 8, Arjen and his friend Jules Rosheuvel, leave for Bionaz. They want to enjoy a short climbing vacation in the mountains and, at the same time, use the opportunity to see Pra de Dieu with their own eyes.
Later -while enjoying a good glass of wine and in the company of Reverend don Ivano Reboulaz, mountain guide Pietro Giglio and Maurizio Gaillard- Arjen's drawings of the hut are being studied. But before even thinking about starting the works, the construction plans have to be legalised. For that we now first need to arrange an official drawing. The legalisation process, of which Maurizio will take care, will take about one year.
It is unfortunate but the risk of avalanches prevents Arjen to go to Pra de Dieu. Pietro Giglio, who works -next to his activities as a mountain guide- for RAI Aosta (tv), promises us to make a small movie of our building site once the weather has bettered. Oh, this 'meadow of God'! There are not enough words to accurately describe its beauty. Pra de Dieu is disarming, enchanting, sunny and utterly charming. The grounds are covered with flowers and there are not less than two mountain streams!
Finally, Arjen meets with the Mayor of Bionaz, Mr. Armando Chentre. He is really enthusiastic about the project and the designs. The two men speak about various matters such as the financial aspect and the name of the project. Arjen makes an apology on our behalf for the denomination of project and website. Because of the fact that Pra de Dieu is part of the City of Bionaz, names like “Bivacco Bionaz” or “Bivacco Pra de Dieu” probably would have been more suitable…
Conclusion: the project lives! Not only in the Netherlands but also in Italy people abundantly think and vividly talk about it. It was a good trip during which we met lots of people and got new and refreshing insights. Some important part of the preliminary work now already has been done. This does not mean, however, that the working group can afford to be lazy in June… |
