- Arjen presents new drawings of the hut.
During the drawing process, it becomes clear that he needs much more information on the terrain and the condition of the soil at the building site.
A topographical map only provides a vague estimation of local conditions. It does not supply exact details on the hillside angle or information about obstacles. Therefore, the final design of the bivouac can be completed only after the location has been visited, measured and studied.
Optimal integration of the hut into its direct surroundings has become the new objective. The roof will be covered with a layer of vegatation which will create the impression of a natural wrinkle in the landscape.
This surely will pose architectonic problems regarding the maximum angle and structure of the roof and strict construction regulations, obviously, must and will be followed.
A rose pattern window with transparent elements and a window-glass in the middle will be placed above the entrance.
Upon entering the hut, one will first come to a living area. The lower right and left corners will provide storage space.
The rear of the hut will have three sleeping floors on which 15 or 16 people can sleep. And as if they were stars, seven small windows in the back wall, illuminate the back part.
Depending on the physical working environment, the bivouac might be partially embedded in the surrounding grounds.
(See drawings 5.1 t/m 5.3 at the bottom of the page.)
In order to exclude difficult and time-consuming operations on the construction site itself, a fast and relatively simple construction design is wanted. Preferably, a large part of the hut will go up the mountain prefabricated. We consider using a building frame of steel I-profiles and wooden facades.
Compared to other alpine huts that are easy to locate, our bivouac will be kind of hidden. Clear directions and signals, on various tracks and paths in the vicinity, are imperative.
- The new design will be reviewed and discussed with the mountain guides and the City of Bionaz. It is more than likely that further adjustments will follow.
- On February 23, 2006 the updated website comes online. Besides the Dutch version there now is an English one too.
